Where the GECKO EV48 wins

  • Energy cost per kilometer: $23,1/km against $137/km for diesel — 6 times less, at commercial electricity tariff with no discounts.
  • 100% first-year accelerated depreciation (Law 21.305, SII Res. 56/2021), a category benefit — applies to any electric vehicle, not exclusive to e-auto — that diesel doesn't have.
  • Exemption from vehicle circulation restrictions in the Santiago metro area, in effect through August 31, 2026.

Where diesel wins

  • Lower purchase price. A diesel van of this class costs between $13,000,000 and $17,000,000, noticeably below the EV48's list price. The economic case for the electric van rests on operating cost, not sticker price.
  • Refueling with no dependence on charging infrastructure. The #1 declared barrier to fleet electrification in Chile is charging infrastructure (84% in the national fleet electromobility survey). A diesel van doesn't have that problem.
  • Range with no homologation-cycle penalty. A diesel van's km/L doesn't carry the same gap between lab cycle and real-world use that the CLTC cycle carries for Chinese electric vans.
